Bio

Dr. Niyati Pandey is an Assistant Professor of Law at Gujarat National Law University (GNLU), Gandhinagar, where she also serves as the Head of External Relations and Head of the Centre for Sports & Entertainment Law. A distinguished academic and researcher, she holds a Ph.D. in Law from The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, with her doctoral research focusing on Contemporary Non-International Armed Conflicts and the Applicability of International Humanitarian Law. She is a Gold Medalist in both LL.M. and B.A.LL.B.

Dr. Pandey’s research interests span across International Humanitarian Law, Sports Law, Media Law, Law of Contracts, and Intellectual Property Law. She has led multiple research projects, including the GNLU Report on Evaluating Blanket Bans and Limits in Online Gaming and a study on Creativity and Content on Modern Media Landscape: OTT Platforms and Self-Regulation. Her publications include a book chapter on India’s Online Gaming Market (Chapman & Hall, 2024) and articles in leading international journals.

She has delivered sessions on International Humanitarian Law and the use of emerging technologies in armed conflicts at the Department of Judge Advocate General (Air), Air Headquarters, New Delhi, and at the Air Force Administrative College, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.

In addition, she has been actively involved in training and conducting workshops on Gender Sensitisation, POSH, and POCSO for government employees, university and school teachers, and professionals from private organisations. As a member of the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) at GNLU, she also leads practical, hands-on training sessions for students and staff of the university.

In addition to her academic contributions, Dr. Pandey plays a key role in legal education and policy advocacy. She has organized and curated significant conferences, FDPs, and policy dialogues, including a Sports Law Conference on Sports Law in the Global South and an FDP on the Advertising Code in collaboration with ASCI. She recently organised 1st GCSEL International Conference on Sports Law on “Transnational Sports Law from the Periphery: A Global South Perspective”.

Beyond academia, she is a former national-level volleyball player, having represented Gujarat in Senior National Championships, and is actively involved in sports law and athlete education.
